Beautiful Carrera Zelos road racing bike only two months oldand as spick & span as when out came out of the shop, but with extras! Theas-new unmarked 51cm frame is ideal for a rider up to about 5”9’. It hasn’teven been ridden far enough to remove the tyre rubber sticky-out bits on thetread you get on new tyres. It’s been about 10 miles on tarmac & smoothsurfaces. Hardly used, but cleaned and admired. A lot.
My daughter purchased it because it looked great. She got itwith all the good intentions you have of joining cycling clubs, riding aroundin the sunshine, etc., but realised that in fact this is not the bike for her. Wehave since found that at 4”10’ she is too small for the bike, which should takeriders from 5”3’ according to the Carrera website.. She can still ride it, butshe is an inexperienced rider and she is just not happy with the fit of it. Thatquick peddle around the shop floor never really gives you the test you need tosee if it is right or not.
She also purchased a chain front cog guard (about £15 notfitted), a saddle bag (£18 reduced from £25), and small but incredibly brightlights. (The stand and bottle holder you see in the pictures will be removed).
The Zelos gets some really great reviews from owners (4.8out of 5 from 46 Halfords customers, always a tough crowd to please), independentbike magazines, bike review sites, and so on.
Some Noted Features of the Carrera Zelos Road Bike
The approximate weight is 11.7. The chain set is Shimano. The forks and frame material are made out of alloy and the frame colour is black. the front brake is a Tektro Dual pivot, the front mech is a Shimano 2 speed, and the gear shifters are Shimano STI trigger shifters. The handle bars are made out of lightweight alloy 440mm and the headset is semi integrated. The hubs are alloy QR and the pedals are made out of alloy. There are 14 gears, a Tektro Dual pivot rear brake, and Shimano 7 speed reach mech. The saddle is made out of Carrera branded Velo foam and the wheel size is 700c.
They do a ladies and a gents version – the only differencebeing that ladies frames can be had in a smaller size, we now discover. Thebike’s retail is £275, although to be fair the ‘black Friday’ deals haveknocked £25 off it. However, with the extras this bike should be over £300retail, but my daughter has it for sale elsewhere for £200. That is crackingvalue for what is ostensibly a new bike with a number of useful extras andprobably better looked after than an ex-demo (my daughter redefines the meaningof the word ‘fussy’).
