2016 model Giant Defy Advanced 1 Disc brake Ultegra Carbon road racing bike, with full Shimano Ultegra 11 speed double groupset. Auction ends Monday evening 8.42pm. The stock wheels were fairly heavy so they were replaced last year for Cosine wheels from Wiggle, costing nearly £200 and pretty light for disc wheels at just over 1600g. The wheel specs are at the bottom of the listing. The saddle has also been upgraded to a Fabric in matching black with blue trim. The pair of Giant bottle cages are also included. Mechanically spot on, just shop serviced including new chain and cassette and brake pads all round, costing £192.Receipt for service plus original purchase receipt and owners manuals all included.Average cosmetic condition. Frame has some scuffs and scratches, most noticeable on the back of the top tube where it meets the seat tube, from leaning it when not riding and locking it up with a chain when stored ( one side shown in the photos ), and some cable rub on the left side head tube ( also shown in photo ). The black satin / matt finish does seem to mark easier than gloss finish bikes that have a protective lacquer coat. Also shoe rub on both cranks, the bar tape is not wrapped that well, but is decent Lizard Skin tape so you could easily re-wrap it, and minor marks elsewhere. Frame & Fork
The Defy is constructed from high performance grade raw carbon fibres, chosen for their high stiffness to weight ratio. The resin uses vibration damping particles to reduce fatigue on long-distance epics.
A modified monocoque construction where the front triangle is built as one piece, then joined to the rear stays eliminates the need for the outermost composite sheet. This reduces weight without sacrificing ride quality, strength or stiffness.
Key to the ride feel is the proven geometry with a taller head tube and shorter top tube that puts you into a more upright riding position. All Defy models share the same geometry.
The Defy is an endurance bike, and as such is built with compliance enhancing features such as ultra thin and flattened stays, These are vertically compliant to absorb road buzz. A D-Fuse seatpost offers more fore/aft movement than traditional round profile for added comfort. This compliance does not make the Defy Advanced 1 sluggish. Lateral and torsional stiffness are maintained for efficient power transfer and precise handling.
Upfront an Advanced Grade composite fork with OverDrive tapered steerer greatly improves stiffness for scalpel like steering. An oversized PowerCore bottom bracket improves lateral stiffness so more of your power goes straight through to the wheels.
Components
Clad is the performance level Shimano Ultegra 11 speed groupset. Shifting is crisp and extremely reliable. A close ratio cassette makes it much easier to match gears to your cadence. Also equipped is an Ultegra compact chainset.
Giant’s excellent P-R2 wheels are quick to speed and durable. Sealed hub bearings are designed for longevity, essential for an endurance road bike. Butted Sapim race spokes shave extra grams off the total weight too.
