TREK Alpha 1.2 Road Racing Bicycle/Bike, Shimano Sora, Alloy/Carbon ForkSize 58cm – Suitable for a rider from 5’10” to 6’4″

Very low mileage excellent condition example

Prepared meticulously for sale. Fresh Service and new bar tape.

TREK Alpha Aluminium Frame with Carbon Forks

Shimano Sora Groupset

9 Speed 11-28t, 50/34 Compact Gearing.

Bontrager Wheels and Finishing kit

This bike is in excellent condition as sadly it has spent most of its life hung up in a garage. To freshen it up for sale I have replaced the bar tape and given it a full service. With the exception of some cosmetic scuffs to the shifter hoods and some storage marks this bike looks like it did when it left the shop.

Trek’s Alpha lightweight aluminium frame uses the same ride-tuned design as the firm’s hardcore racers like the Madone or Domane, drawing strength from its sleek,hydro-formed Alpha 100 series aluminium tubeset. The Aero Carbon Forks help reduce overall weight and make for effortless and agile cornering.

Shimano Sora STI is a serious groupset that shifts quickly and precisely. I’ve reindexed the gears so it is ready to hit the road this weekend. The compact gearing is perfect for flying on flat ground or heading for the hills.

If you have any questions about the bike(or road cycling in general) then just give me a shout. I’m a cycle mechanic and I prepare all the bikes I sell meticulously so that I can offer you complete piece of mind when buying a 2nd hand road bike.

Collection only from Walkley, Sheffield. I can’t ship the bike I’m afraid. Please come and view the bike if you’re serious about buying. Don’t pay in advance and only make offers once you’ve seen the excellent condition this bike is in.

I can include a set of flat pedals in the sale if you need them or I can fit your own SPD’s if you prefer. If you’re new to cycling then come and have a sit on the bike and ask as many questions as you like. I’ll do my very best to help.

I’ve advertised the bike elsewhere so come find me on Gumtree if you want to haggle. Ebay doesn’t take kindly to arranging a sale outside the auction site.

Once again, any questions then please give me a shout and be quick. My bikes don’t last long.

Thanks…

BIKE REVIEW

A superbentry-level road bike with serious intentions, Trek’s 1.2 would make a greattraining bike or a commuter but is very much a racer through and through andbuilt using the same competition-winning geometry and ride-tuned frame designas its bigger brothers. Fitted with transponder mounts on the fork andall-weather mudguard fixing points the 1.2 makes no bones about its aspirationas a bike for putting in the miles and offers great value for a sub-£700 roadbike. The Trek 1.2. Just£699.99 on the road.

RIDING IMPRESSIONS

The feel from thesaddle on the 1.2 is that of the firm’s higher end bikes, and you may have tostop and get off to check you haven’t accidentally left the shop with ahigher-spec model. The level of performance from the frame when powering hardis easily comparable with that of a four-figure machine, and gear shifts areslick and precise to the point where you don’t consider them, they just happen, leaving you to focus on eking out that extra few seconds on your mile. The Trek1.2 has a tough frame that’ll take the hardest of road surfaces yet stilloffers more than enough feedback through its receptive carbon forks and alloyframe. Steering and braking is confident and the bike feels planted throughfast sweepers yet nimble in the tighter direction changes.

FRAME AND FORK

Trek’s Alphalightweight aluminium frame uses the same ride-tuned design as the firm’shardcore racers like the Madone or Domane, drawing strength from its sleek,hydro-formed Alpha 100 series aluminium tubeset. This bike perfectlyillustrates how years of multi-million pound R&D and its resultingtechnology can filter down from the company’s £3-4000 flagship road bikes, proven successful in professional tours, and turn the entry-level models intobikes offering exceptional value when compared to the equivalent from just afew years back. The H2 geometry is now used throughout the range, confirmingthe thoroughbred even at this price point. And yet holding that Bontrager-approvedaluminium front wheel is a pair of aero carbon forks, helping reduce overallweight and making for effortless and agile cornering.

KIT

Despite the 1.2’slower price tag, you’re still getting a great Shimano Sora groupset, with anFSA compact chainset and 9-speed SRAM cassette, giving you an 18-speed set-up.This bike benefits from Shimano’s new STI levers for an even slicker shiftingexperience, new for 2013, and mounted to a quality Bontrager alloy race-specdrop-bar, which is wrapped in Trek’s endurance Gel Cork tape for added comfort.

Bontrager finishingkit ups the level of refinement on the 1.2 with a high quality perch andfantastic aluminium rims. All in all, combined with the level ofrace-performance frame and forks, this equates to remarkable value on the Trek1.2 Compact.

THE RIDER

For a first road bike, the Trek 1.2 Compact offers a surprisingly good springboard into the excitingworld of road cycling, bringing the amateur rider right up to speed, literally, with the rest of the group and at a fraction of the price.

BOTTOM LINE

The Trek 1.2 is anaffordable inauguration into road cycling, offering a versatile beginner’splatform, whether your designs are on competition, commuting or carefreecruising.
