Here’s a highly original, highly collectible, stunner! The Bianchi Campione D’italia model of road bike is rarely seen in this condition and even less often in this colour scheme! Almost every Bianchi is the Celeste green – so it is great to find one in factory original pearl white metallic with red decals! The Campione D’Italia frame and forks have the Tre Tubi Rinforzati, Formula Two Bianchi, Cromo Molibeno, Produzione Columbus frame, Columbus is the Italian equivalent to Reynolds tubing, and rated material. The spec as delivered when new included a Bianchi Selle Italia Seat, Modolo Start Brake Levers and Brakes, Bianchi pearl effect silver/white spiral covered brake cables, Ofmega Master Derailleur, twin Bianchi gear selection levers, ITM Bianchi etched Handlebars and ITM Bianchi Stem, Sachs Huret rear sprockets, Ofmega Bianchi three-piece cranks. Wheels are Ambrosio 19 Extra Elite Durex March Depositato Allumag Monocellulare Rims with Michelin 700 x 20c Select Sport Tires. Each and every element mentioned is to be found on this machine – it is absolutely untouched since the day it was built – nothing has been changed, altered or replaced! The patination is fantastic giving a condition that is true and honest, an overall survivor that would be a fabulous addition to any collection. This is not a bike to restore, renew or upgrade components, but one to leave exactly the way it is. The amount of use it has had is obviously very low, as the wear on the chain wheels is so minor, the original Michelin Select Sports have no real signs of wear and the sides of the Ambrosio rims are not showing brake pad lines. This Bianchi was discovered in the garage of a very affluent family where it had been kept since new, the story it was only used ‘not more than handful of times, just enough to confirm it was a dreadful chore on one’s resources’. After this the Bianchi was ‘banished to the corner of the garage, like a naughty child, hah, hah, hah!’ and never ridden again. Although not certain, or bothered, the date it was originally purchased was thought to be somewhere towards the latter part of the 80’s – 86 to 88. The only element you would probably need to renew after becoming the owner of this Bianchi is the handlebar tape. The Campione D’Italia was second to the Campione D’Mondo in the Bianchi road bike, so up there in hierarchy of the line up. Today a bike like this would make a perfect steed for events such as Eroica Britannia. It is a great classic steel framed road bike, absolutely original in every element and from a brand with a name and heritage that is highly respected. As interest is growing in classic steel road bikes rapidly, there can be no question examples like this will climb in value. Finding one as original as this and in a great colour scheme than predictable light green is not an everyday event!I have started this auction at a figure representative of the facts, I will accept offers to secure a sale if you don’t want to see it go to another bidder.
