This auction is for a Carrera TDF road bike. It is running a Shimano 2300 groupset with eight speeds at the back and a double at the front, giving a total of 16 gears. It has unbranded dual pivot road bike brakes which work well with a good, clean action and decent life left in the blocks. The frame has eyelets for mudguards front and rear and a rack and the wheels run pretty true. If I am being picky the front wheel has a slight buckle, although this does not affect the bike to ride and there is some slight damage to the pedals, although again they are perfectly usable. It also has a pair of schwalbe branded tyres with good tread.
Although mechanically the bike is in good shape, cosmetically things are not so positive. The paint has a fair number of chips and scrapes. There are no dents to the frame, so structurally it is good, but as you can see from the photos, this is a clearly used bike.
Measurements are as follows:
Seat tube from centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat post = 52cm
Top tube from centre of the seat post to the centre of the fork = 55cm
Overall, with a set of mudguards and maybe a rack this is a perfect fast commuter. As it doesn’t look too good you could leave it outside a station or a place of work for the day with a decent lock and be fairly sure of finding it where you left it. On the other hand, if you want to get into road cycling and you are not sure whether it is for you then this is a great place to start. If the bug bites, you can upgrade and sell this for what most of what it will cost you in a year or two.
