Hello!
Thanks for looking at my Colnago Dream, size 55 cm.
I bought the frame originally on Ebay from France in about 2010. It is from approx. mid 1990’s. I built the bike with Campagnolo parts I had at the time, some of which I have replaced along the way (e.g. ergo levers which I have just replaced). I have just given it refurbished wheels (hubs cleaned & reconstructed with new cones/ bearings; rims & spokes nice condition). It has new tyres, bar tape and brake cables. It is in good working order with nice smooth gears and brakes!
Reason for selling: Sadly, despite having loved racing bikes from a young age, I get back pain, and racing bikes are not really for me now. I have sold my others and this is the last one.
Good points
· Wheels are newly rebuilt with new bearings, haven’t been ridden – almost like new!
· Rides well and gears shifting nicely
· Anyone who was owned an Italian bike of this era will know they are a pleasure to ride! I have spent many happy hours riding this on sunny weekends, and never tired of the styling and the solid feel. It also sparks admiring comments and conversations, which I never got with carbon bikes.
· It has been ridden mainly at weekends/ fair weather.
Things to be aware of
· Please bear in mind this bike is roughly 25 years old (some components may be older, some younger) and there is wear all over, in keeping with its age and use. If you are used to modern bikes you will find it has a different feel, and gear ratios are quite high, so not so good for hills unless you have good legs.
· There are some blisters and chips in the paintwork, as expected for an aluminium frame of this age. I have painted over in some areas (some of which are seen in the photos, e.g cable guides on top-tube). But the colour is not a proper match.
· There is a bit of wear in the headset, but it doesn’t have any play and it doesn’t affect how it rides so not really a problem.
· The bars are not the correct size for the stem and so it has a plastic shim to make up the size difference. This is more an aesthetic detail and it works ok. You could either keep as it is, or if you like you could replace the bars for the correct size – they are quite cheap on eBay like £20 for retro Italian bars 3M.
· Years ago, the downtube cable guide for the rear derailleur corroded and snapped in the receiver. I improvised a guide (can be seen in the photos), which is fine, but it’s not adjustable. Not really a problem because the derailleur cable tension can be adjusted at the derailleur end anyway. If you really wanted it could be drilled out but I think best just left as it is.

Sizing guide
I am 185 cm/ 6’1 tall and buy 36” trousers. I think it is a good fit for me, but it partly depends on personal taste. I have had bikes with larger frames, e.g. 57 & 58 cm, which were recommended professionally in bike shops. But I never got on with them and I prefer 55 or 56 cm top-tubes (centre-to-centre). If you are a bit shorter than me it will still be fine. If you are much taller then you probably need a bigger frame.
Postage:
Please check price before bidding! I know that there are cheaper quotes you can find from companies, but I use Parcelforce because I trust them. It will actually cost more than I have quoted, because of insurance, but I will make up the difference
Feel free to view in Norwich or pick up in Norwich. Alternatively I’d be happy to drive up to 50 miles from Norwich to meet somewhere for pickup (not just for a viewing though). I am sometimes in Surrey area so potentially could arrange pick up around Kingston area (again, only after purchase; not just for a viewing i’m afraid).
Paypal only please, no cash accepted
Feel free to ask any questions! I can email more photos if requested.
Happy bidding!
