I purchased this carbon bike new from Giant Store Rutland in April 2015 for £3499.00
It’s a Medium Size frame and weighs 7.3 kilos
The seat post has been cut to my size and has a seat height of 73.2cm – measured from centre of crank along the down tube to the centre of the seat.. this height of 73.2 cm includes the spacers. The spacers once removed would reduce the seat height by 20 mm or by cutting the seat post further.
Medium frame (48cm) has:
54.5 cm top tube
37.7 cm reach
16.5 cm head tube
New bar tape
Pedals not included
Arthritic knees have put a lid on my cycling days.
Bike is in top notch condition
It’s has a service or 2 over the years with some new pads in the past.
I’ve not ridden it seriously since knee ops in 2017.
Its gets a few run outs for 10 miles or so and is under wraps and well oiled.
Here’s the Giant bumf from back in the day:
The 2015 Giant Defy Advanced SL platform is something of a paradox being as it is exceptionally compliant and forgiving yet brutishly strong and powerfully stiff. The Defy Advanced SL is also the lightest frame Giant have ever produced and is one of the stiffest – stiffer than the Propel Advanced SL that has seen Kittel destroying the sprinting field on.
Giant have made significant weight savings by having fewer holes in the frame. Counter-intuitive as that may sound, holes in carbon frames require reinforcement at a penalty of 10g per hole and by utilising existing holes, by routing 2 cables through one drilling and with some tweaks to frame design, the Defy advanced SL is 50g lighter than it's predecessor even with the inclusion of disc mounts both front and rear. Giant have increased the stiffness of the Advanced SL and of the Big Four (Giant, Cannondale, Trek and Specialized) the Defy has the greatest pedalling efficiency which gives snappy acceleration, sharp handling and confident ride quality. Despite the increased stiffness to weight, the Defy Advanced SL is also remarkably compliant making it ideal for the endurance or sportive rider and racer. Giant have achieved this compliance not from the use of gimmicks (no frame inserts for example) but from a Pure Engineering perspective. The rear seat stays are flattened and just 1.3mm thin (any thinner and they would cease to be a tube) and this allows for a precise amount of flex under vertical loads and their junction with the seat tube is lower which creates a leaf-spring effect over their length for smooth riding on rough, uneven surfaces. At the front end the redesigned fork has been slimmed down and is now a more curved shape for balanced ride feel and tuned compliance. Like the bulk of Giant's Avail and Defy ranges, the Advanced SL series features a new carbon D-Fuse seatpost – so called as its profile is shaped like a D and diffuses unwanted vibration to create a more comfortable ride. All of the carbon Defy models feature disc brakes and these have been seamlessly integrated into the design of the frame. From what we have seen, the Giant Defy Advanced SL is one of the tidiest and maintains extremely clean lines. The Shimano R685 hydraulic disc brakes found on the Defy Advanced SL 1 offer trouble free braking in unpredictable conditions and are never troubled by rough surfaces giving the rider greater confidence and control. A shimano 22 speed mechanical Ultegra group and Giant's exceptional P-SL0 wheel system complete a superbly refined and technical performance package that will have you smiling a the end of the most gruelling endurance efforts.
There is no better road machine for long, demanding days in the saddle. Think centuries, sportive and rough roads. The frame is handcrafted with superlight, professional grade Advanced SL composite that’s engineered with endurance geometry and optimized to deliver a smoother and faster ride. It features innovative technologies including disc brakes and the D-Fuse integrated seatpost to reduce road vibration. The oversized and tapered OverDrive 2 steerer tube boosts cornering precision. The MegaDrive downtube and PowerCore bottom bracket deliver precise handling and unmatched pedalling efficiency.
