1950’s vintage Claud Butler road racing bike – stunning!
Stunning L’eroice ready Claud Butler
road bike that has been restored to a high standard and is ready to ride. It’s
been built to be a useable general bike and not just a museum piece.
The frame has been powder coated in
metallic silver to a high standard and new decals have been applied (the last
picture shows the frame pre restoration. The wheels and tyres are new as I got
bored waiting for a decent pair of period 700c wheels to come up on ebay – the
tyres are also new Gatorskins. New wheels and tyres really add to the ride
quality.
There is some nice surface patina on
steel and alloy parts (lots of opportunity for polishing) here are a few very
small marks and scuffs but as you can see from the pictures it’s a stunning
bike.
Specification:
Frame/Fork: Reynolds 531 steel
Transmission: 5 speed – steel cottered chainset
(could Williams but not stamped), Campagnolo Nuovo Gran Sport rear derailleurs,
Campagnolo downtube shifter
Bakes: Weinmann 730 sidepull and levers
Wheels: 700c alloy rims, alloy sealed bearing hubs, Continental Gatorskin 700 x 28c tyres.
Finishing
kit: alloy period handlebar, GB alloy stem,
Birmalux alloy seatpost, period Brooks B15 saddle, Alloy Leyotard pedals (ideal
for adding toe clips and straps. I think the bar tape is Brooks Leather (don’t
hold me to this).
Size: 23” – 59cm
(measured centre to top) – top tube 22”. It should fit a rider 5′ 8” to 6’ but
you need to check this is right for you.
