Just serviced, ready to ride and priced to sell.
Good mechanical condition so rides great and brakes, turns and changes gear well. Some chips, marks and scratches present on original metallic white paint with green decals and black painted forks.
Frame size is large 23.5 inch (60cm) in Reynolds 501 double butted tubing.Frame is measured from centre of bottom bracket to top of seat stem frame tube. The distance from the ground to the top of the frame is about 33.5 (85cm) inches and the current floor saddle height (floor to top of saddle) measurement is 40.5 inches (103cm).
Alesa 700c grey anodized wheels with aluminium quick release hubs and two newish black B-Twin tyres.
Shimano Exage 12 speed gears with Shimano Sport LX aluminium twin down-tube shifters (one small plastic lever cover missing but hardly noticeable in use).
FX Sakae grey anodized aluminium handlebar stem with Raleigh aluminium scrolled dropped handlebars. Black tape added (over original white & green padded tape).
Shimano Exage Biopace aluminium 2 piece chain set with sealed bottom bracket and Shimano pedals and toe clips (shoe cages) .
Weinmann grey anodized aluminium side pull brake callipers and Weinmann grey anodized aluminium brake levers (one small grey plastic insert missing).
SR Sakae aluminium seat post with damaged saddle as per pictures.
In the 1988 Raleigh racers
catalogue, the Elan was the top of the range (of the Reynolds 501 bikes), it
had a nice spec Shimano Exage groupset, some trick parts, and was the same
weight as low-mid range 531 bikes in the superior “Raleigh
lightweight” catalogue.
Owned for 15 years with very little use!
