I bought this for spares or repair with minimal description in the listing. I spent 15 minutes at the roadside changing an inner tube, adjusting the brakes and gears, lifting the seat and bars (I am 6’5″) and rode it the 7km home. I had planned on stripping it for parts, but the ones I wanted are the wrong spec for my early 80s touring Raleigh, so I’ve repaired it instead.
It has been repainted in the past and so the model is unknown
It is a 60cm (23.5 inch) frame, measured from the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube
The step over height is 84cm,
The top tube is 57cm
The wheel base is 102cm
In the photos the seat is 103cm high and can go up and down a bit
In the photos the top of the bars is 94cm, and can go up and down a bit
I think it would best suit someone medium to tall, maybe upto about 6 foot or a bit taller. I’m 6’5″, 103kg and middle aged and rode it 7km but it is too small and the tyres too skinny for me to be comfortable on it.
Sachs shifters on downtube, front is friction, rear is indexed
Front derailleur is Shimano
Rear derailleur is Shimano 105
Shimano Sora compact chainset 50 and 34 tooth, 170mm cranks
Shimano bottom bracket cartridge (international 24tpi thread, I had expected and wanted a old Raleigh spec 26tpi version)
Black plastic pedals, working but stiff reflectors fitted both sides
Shimano 7sp freewheel
Side pull brake calipers
Raleigh drop handlebars
The brake pads were worn out so I have fitted the best used spares I had.
Both tyres are Continental puncture resistant Gatorskin 700×23
(I had hoped for 700 X 28 or 32)
622 X 16 rim
622 X 16 ish rim
Old but functioning silver mudguards
Other good bits:
Functioning inexpensive bike
Old and showing its age generally
Rear mech stiff, I have stripped cleaned and manipulated it so it now gets the 5 or 6 largest sprockets, using should help it to ease up and get the small one too
Collection at a mutually convenient time, I live near Alexandra Park on the border of Fallowfield and Whalley Range in South Manchester, and am easy to find.
I am not on eBay to make a living or cheat anyone. I buy spare parts and all sorts of stuff on eBay and it makes sense to use it to to shift usable things I no longer want or need. I try and give full descriptions and useful photos, but if you have any questions please ask, don’t make any assumptions.
