Raleigh road racing bike.This came to me as an apparent Reynolds 531 frame, but it isn’t I think the previous owner got a bit mixed up with his memory.The frame number is NN71231265 which is on the seat tube, which indicates that it is either Raleigh’s proprietary 18-23 hi-tensteel used in any number of racers of the 197,80s. The N stands for the Nottingham works where all the mass produced bikeswere made. Some bikes with an N are Reynolds 501. However, all Reynolds 531 frames are stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket and begin W. So now you know, and if you did, sorry.Anyway , the previous owner and being a money bags decided to get his Raleigh resprayed and being in Derby went to MercianWho resprayed it the deep purple vignette to speckle metallic silver, and it shows, excellent paint job.It was given a Stronglight crank Shimano 105 rear mech, Shimano Exage brakes and levers (one upper plastic cap is missing but doesn’t affect performance). There seems to have been some issue with the brazed on gear bosses, the centre screw in part has been erased, a friction set of band on Suntour levers sit below, It’s not an issue.The alloy wheels are odd the rear is a Weinmann rim with hub to 6 speed freewheel, the front is a narrower Excel rim to a Sachs hub.Tyres and tubes fine.The front mech is one I’ve never heard of Roots, no me neither, it seems a Shimano copy. Trap pedals The seat is a seat and the seat pin is a seat pin.It all works although I think the chain is a bit baggy when on the smaller crank and in the lowest gear. Maybe remove a link.It’s a nice thing all together and should roll around until doomsday.I will post in a proper bike box I have squashed the price of postage down to absolute cost to help
