This listing is for the one-off opportunity to purchase a very special bike, a Raleigh Special
Products Division Dyna tech works frame made for the then professional Raleigh
team rider Adrian Timmis around 1994
This frame was made at the separate Raleigh Special Products
Division workshop located opposite to the main Raleigh Factory on Triumph Road
in Nottingham.
There were only a handful of these road bikes and a few lo
pro bikes ever made in these team colours
It has a Reynolds 753 rear triangle, head tube and front
forks, the other main tubes are I suspect either titanium or metal matrix, but
they are along with the bottom bracket non-magnetic, indicating one or the
other (I think)
The frame BB is clearly stamped A Timmis along with the
frame designation number SB 9589 the fork steerer is stamped AT 9589, number 2
is stamped under the cable guide.
The dimesons are:
Top tube C-C = 21.5″
Seat tube C-C = 22.5″ or 57CM
The bike is fitted with good quality period components which
include:
ITM stem, ITM bars, Miche alloy headset, alloy aero SR seat
post, marked for Adrian’s height? Rolls leather saddle.
Campagnolo Bottom bracket (not cartridge)
Shimano Dura Ace brakes, 8 speed Dura Ace shifters, derailleurs.
170mm crank arms, 42, 52 alloy chainrings, Shimano hubs, Mavic 700C rims with
double butted stainless-steel spokes and Michelin tyres, new Shimano Dura
cables throughout along with a new Shimano HG chain.
Titanium frame screws.
The bike is over twenty years old and does have some marks
scuffs and wear, the original paint particularly on some of the 753 steel areas
is lifting slightly, probably due to light corrosion beneath the paint?
I wanted to keep the paint original so I have not meddled
with it in any way apart from waxing it, the top transfer has been touched up, one of the
downtube shifter brackets has cracked paint around it but it appears solid.
There are a pair of poor quality pedals fitted which are
included, I’m sure that you will want to fit your own.
The frame bonding looks to be in very good order at all of the
frame tube joints, it rides really well but it’s just too small for me hence
reluctantly it’s up for sale otherwise I would be definitely keeping this.
A peice of Raleighs racing history, still in its original paint finish!
Prior to use this should be checked over by a fully trained
cycle mechanic
Note:
I’m sure that you already know this but the SB reference was
a carryover from the Raleigh Ilkeston specialist bicycle development Unit SBDU days,
the SB prefix at Nottingham was then reserved for Team Bikes, prototypes and bespoke
one offs at the then named Special Products Division, I had the pleasure of
visiting the SPDU workshop in the 90s several times.
Cash on collection preferred from near Junction 25 of the M1
Nott’s Derby border
Postage / damage in post is at the buyer’s risk, hence
collection REALLY preferred, I will however pack this the very best that I can but who knows what
will happen once it’s in others hands.
Sorry for the post cost but this includes,
begging Halfords for a box and all of the faff of packing and posting it
Current Price: £2000.00
