Refurbished Trek Alpha 2.3 road bike 54cm size. This bike had previously been used as a commuter but sadly proved a little small for my nephew so is on here as a great first road bike or second bike if you’ve already got a best bike. This bike is very similar to the current spec aluminium Madones.
Frame: Trek Alpha superlight aluminium 54cm with Bontrager Race Carbon bladed forks. FSA integrated headset.
Wheels: front hub Shimano 105, rear Tiagra series on black spokes and Mach Omega rims. Continental Gatorskin tyres. Shimano 105 ten speed cassette recently added.
Groupset: Shimano 105 5700 series 10 speed. New Ultegra chain and recent ultegra BB.
Finishing kit: Bontrager
Saddle: Bontrager Paradigm RL with hollow Ti rails. I have a softer less race Bontrager saddle if your prefer a softer ride. Let me know and I’ll swap it out.
Pedals:Shimano 105 clipless pedals. Bearings smooth.
Plus points:
New Shimano Ultegra chain, new gear hanger, new Shimano gear and brake cables, new Clark’s brake pads, nearly new 105 cassette with a little surface rust which will go as soon as it’s ridden, nearly new saddle with hollow Ti rails or more comfort orientated Bontrager saddle, recent Ultegra bottom bracket. Near new Shimano rear QR as the fitted one was a bit scuffed. The bike also has mudguard eyes so would take narrow guards for winter. Very recent bar tape.
Not so good: the frame has small scratches and scuffs as you would expect on a used bike. There is a tiny dent on the top tube about 5mm across and 0.5mm deep. It’s quite hard to see and in no way affects the bike at all, just being honest. The down tube upper bottle bolt doesn’t work. The LBS could help but I’ll include an adapter which works fine (sort of a rubber strap on cage mount), the seat tube bosses are fine. There are some slightly rusty spokes but the wheels are ok and have plenty of life left. A set of Mavic Aksiums would look great on the bike.
This is a 2011/12 model and cost £1299 new. This bike would be an ideal second bike or for an MTBer who fancies a try on a road bike without breaking the bank. Or maybe a junior perhaps? I won’t post so please don’t ask but we are very centrally situated off J26/J27/J28 M1. Strictly collect only.
