Here we have a Nice Carlton Catalina from 1962. This one has been nicely restored with fresh paint work finished to a very good standard. As such, the frame is in excellent shape with the classic Capella lugs picked out in the same contrasting red paint as the head tube and seat tube bands. The head badge has been polished up and all decals are clearly lacquered so overall the frame looks as if it just left the factory. There are a couple of paint chips on the non drive side chain stay, along with a couple of scratches on the dropout, that need a little minor touch up, otherwise the frame is without fault. The components are in good shape, with excellent polished GB bars and stem, fairly decent chrome on the chainset and excellent chrome on those tidy pedals. The Campagnolo Valentino Extra rear derailleur offers concise shifting across the six speed freewheel and gives a good spread of gears. The period Middlemores saddle is very comfortable and is nicely matched by the brown bar tape. Out on the road this is a very calm, stable machine, with a good turn of pace but above all, plenty of style. It gets many an admiring glance and really does glisten in the sunshine. The period ‘shorty mudguards, offer a little protection for when it doesn’t and the amberwall tires are nice and supple over the tarmac. All in all this Catalina is a special bike that really looks the part and delivers a riding experience that both meets and exceeds its appearance.
