Focus make great bikes, I’ve always been a fan and their “Cayo” model has been setting performance/value benchmarks since 2005.
This Cayo AL features the excellent Cayo geometry but in super lightweight aluminum with sleek internal cable routing. As a result it turns heads in its stealth matte black finish but also turns some serious power transfer thanks to its stiffness.
Drivetrain comes courtesy of Shimano’s 4700 Tiagra 10-speed series and this means trickle down tech from the flagship Dura-Ace groupset. Shifting is super quick and precise and it looks mean thanks to the black finish Cranks/Mechs.
Gearing is setup for those who like to ride fast and smash Strava Segments at will. A semi-compact 52/36 Crankset and 11-28 Cassette mean your average speed is only going one way; up!
The biggest upgrade this bike has on its similar priced rivals is Shimano Hydraulic Disc Brakes. Once you’ve ridden a roadie with hydro’s you’ll be asking how you ever managed without them. Attack every descent with confidence knowing you’ve got the stopping power to get yourself out of trouble. Even when not attacking descents my hydraulic brakes have saved me from a few questionable motorists too.
The factory Schwalbe One Tyres show how little mileage this bike has done and offer great puncture protection as well as grip in all weathers.
In preparation for sale I’ve given this bike a major service so it is ready for its new owner. The original rear hub had a slight fault so I’ve replaced the entire wheelset with a brand new set from a CAAD12. These Maddux RD20’s haven’t turned a wheel outside so they run lovely and true.
The Disc brake rotors are also brand new, I went with Shimano Ice Tech to match the high spec Shimano calipers.
Finally, I replaced the bar tape so this bike would feel brand new to it’s 2nd owner.
New this bike had a £1200 price tag and offered great value for money considering the components. It was purchased 2 years ago and has hardly covered any miles so this is a 2nd owner bargain at £795.
